大学最持久的象征是老井，一个以凡尔赛花园中的爱德圣堂为基础的新古典主义的小圆形建筑。老井地点原来是一口给学校供水的井，它位于McCorkle广场（即北广场）的最南端，介于校园最古老的两栋建筑旧东方和旧西方之间。在圆形建筑的中心有一个象征性的饮水处（现在提供城市饮用水)，以便大家能从老井喝到好运气。有一个传统是新生要喝井里的水，据称，如果这样做，他那个学期会拿全A。
